Wall of Fame

Former tournament champs Brenden Hardy and Raymond Schreffler came back this spring for another win with a 52, earning them the $100 top prize donated by Dugan Funeral Home & Crematory.

Brad and Greg Lescalleet, with multiple past victories of their own, took second place this time with a 53, and took home a card good for a large pizza "any way" and a 2-liter soda from Shippensburg Pizza Hut, along with $15 in gift certificates from our new sponsor, Cabin on King.

Brad Lescalleet also nabbed another large pizza and 2-liter from Shippensburg Pizza Hut for his win in the accuracy contest, as did Brenden Hardy, for his win in the distance contest.

We thank all participants for joining us for the afternoon in Shippensburg Township park, and hope to see everyone back in the spring.

About the course:

Papa Jack’s Disc Golf Course was named for local disc golf champion Jack Roddick. The course was built by a grassroots effort that included contributions of effort and expertise from Scott Evans, Brian Oldt, Steve Oldt, Jack Roddick, Dan Roddick, Glen Asper, and Elliot Shuey, among others, and financial contributions from a number of businesses and non-profit sponsors. Installation of the course was completed in early November, 2010, and its official opening was celebrated with our first tournament on April 30, 2011.

About disc golf:

Since its emergence in the 1960’s, disc golf has grown in popularity and is now played around the world at more than 3,000 courses. Like Shippensburg Township’s, a vast majority of the courses are free and open to the public. The game is played similarly to golf, except with a disc (like a Frisbee®) instead of a ball and clubs. The object is to make it from the "tee" to the "hole" in as few "strokes" (throws) as possible. For more information on the rules and techniques of game play, we recommend reading the PDGA (Professional Disc Golfer's Association) introductory guide.

About sponsorship:

The club is looking for additional local businesses and organizations to lend their assistance in the form of cash donations, gift certificates, and give-away items. Financial sponsorship levels available range from $25 to $500. Sponsors will be acknowledged with on-site signage and in the tournament program.

Note: to ensure proper acknowledgement, please submit sponsorship information and payment at least two weeks before the event.

About vendors:

The Rotary Club will be selling limited edition Discraft discs, and other vendors may be on-site as well. If you are interested in setting up a stand or food truck, please contact us.

About Rotary Club of Shippensburg:

In addition to the global polio eradication and clean drinking water efforts of Rotary International, the Rotary Club of Shippensburg's activities support a number of local projects like highway and Peace Garden clean-up, student-focused programs like academic and vocational scholarships, and community events like Drop the Anchor.
